About

Purpose

The purpose of the site is to provide easily accessible information on the flora and vegetation of the Taranaki region including Egmont National Park, the Taranaki ringplain and inland Taranaki. Too much of that information is currently out of print or scattered across a range of books, journals and unpublished reports.

This website will be a “one stop shop” for all this material either in the form of downloadable pdfs or as links to other sites where the information can be found. It will take us some time to get there but we have made a start and intend to progressively add information as we can. We hope you will find this website useful. If you have any comments or suggestions we welcome them; please visit the contact page.

Acknowledgments

Dr George Mason has provided encouragement and support for our efforts to research the Taranaki flora and vegetation since the late 1970s. The North Taranaki Branch of the Royal Forest and Bird Society provided funding for two graphics by Catherine Beard via the Taranaki Community Trust. Rob Lynch Managing Editor of the New Zealand Journal of Botany provided advice on how to link published journal and book material. We are grateful to the Royal Society of New Zealand for the opportunity to make this information available.

Thank you to Bill Clarkson who has kindly provided photographs and text for several sections of the website.

Ellen Clarkson developed this website with support from a University of Waikato Summer Scholarship, supervised by Dr. Chrissen Gemmill.
